Windsurfing: Levington Wind Direction: w Wind Stength: 13/22 Surf / Sea State: river chop Air Temperature: 20 Sea Temperature: Weather: sunny periods Max Speed: 24 (knots - unless stated otherwise) Distance Covered: 28 (Nautical Miles - unless stated otherwise)
With the wind in the west and forecast to blow perhaps 15 to 20 if we were
lucky it didn't seem worth the trip to Point Clear so Levington was the
best option. I was at the marina early and the wind was fairly light so
went big - 9.4 on the longboard and was on the water at 10.15 and the tide
was really low so I sailed out of the marina channel. I started by sailing
to Felixstowe docks but the wind was light in this section of the river so
I started to beat up towards Pin Mill but half way I got my strongest gust
of the day so turned and reached back getting my best run of the day
peaking at 24kts but the wind eased back so I spent about an hour and a
half broad reaching from the marina down towards the docks leaving the many
yachts for dead as I sped best - great fun as the river was crowded with
all sorts of boats and I had to avoid three ships heading to Ipswich! After
over two hours on the water I returned to the van for a snack just as three
more windsurfers turned up - Steve Carter, Mark Smalling and Mark Davis,
rigging 8.5 and going out on big shortboards. I continued on the longboard
having another hour beating to Pin Mill sadly the wind dropped but still a
good day out on the water :)
